Visitor Information

Newtec Pistol Club welcomes licensed visitors and spectators who have arranged an appropriate Club escort. Our priority is to provide a safe, compliant and enjoyable environment for everyone attending the Club.

Please read the following requirements before visiting.

Range fees and supplies

Visitor range fee: $20.00
Targets: $4.00
Patches: $10.00 per roll of 1,500, subject to availability

Payment information

Cash is preferred.
EFTPOS may not always be available.
We do not accept $50 or $100 notes.
A maximum of $10 change can be provided.
Keep your receipt while at the Club and show it if requested.

Before entering the range

All people attending Newtec Pistol Club must report to the clubhouse immediately upon arrival.

Do not enter a range or range area until you have completed the sign-in and admission process.

On arrival, you must:

Report directly to the clubhouse.
Sign the visitor register immediately.
Present your current firearms licence or government-issued identification.
Present your current home pistol or rifle club membership card.
Present evidence of current NSWAPA or SSAA membership where applicable.
Pay the applicable range fee.
Obtain a visitor tag and wear it visibly throughout your visit.
Keep your receipt with you while at the Club.
Wait for permission before entering any range area.

You must keep your firearms licence with you whenever you are on a range or in possession of firearms or ammunition.

Mandatory safety equipment

Every person entering a range must wear:

Hearing protection suitable for shooting activities; and
Eye protection rated to an applicable Australian Standard.

You will not be permitted onto a range without appropriate hearing and eye protection.

Visitors are responsible for bringing suitable protective equipment unless prior arrangements have been made with the Club.

Range access and supervision

Visitors must not enter or move around range areas unescorted.

A shooting visitor must proceed only to the range on which they are participating.
A Club member or authorised Range Safety Officer must be present on the range with a visiting shooter.
Spectators and non-shooting visitors must be the guest of a Club member or have arranged for a Committee member or authorised Club representative to escort them.
Visitors must not roam around the property, ranges or restricted areas.
Children and dependants must remain under appropriate adult supervision.
Follow all signs, barriers and access restrictions.

If the RANGE CLOSED sign is displayed:

Do not take firearms onto a range.
Do not handle or uncase firearms.
Wait for instructions from an authorised Club official.

Firearms and ammunition requirements

Firearms must remain securely cased while in the clubhouse.
Firearms must not be uncased in the clubhouse.
Firearms must not be carried in holsters away from an authorised live-fire range.
Where holster use is permitted, the shooter must display the required holster qualification card.
Newtec reserves the right to inspect firearms and ammunition brought onto Club property.
All firearms and ammunition must comply with the Club’s range approvals, standing orders and applicable laws.
Do not handle another person’s firearm or ammunition without the owner’s permission and appropriate supervision.
Do not load a firearm except on an authorised live-fire range and only when directed by the Range Safety Officer.
Keep every firearm pointed in a safe direction and keep your finger outside the trigger guard until authorised to fire.
Immediately stop firing, unload as directed and await instructions when a ceasefire is called.

Rifle restrictions for visitors

Visitors who are not Newtec Pistol Club members are restricted to:

.22 LR rifles; or
Air rifles not exceeding .25 calibre.

No exceptions apply unless a different activity has been formally authorised by the Club and is permitted by the Club’s approvals and applicable law.

Conduct on the range

While at Newtec Pistol Club, visitors must:

Follow the Club’s range rules, standing orders and safety procedures.
Comply immediately with instructions from Range Safety Officers and other authorised Club officials.
Act safely, responsibly and respectfully.
Remain within authorised visitor areas.
Ask for assistance if uncertain about any instruction or procedure.
Avoid distracting or approaching a shooter while live firing is underway.
Never handle firearms while people are forward of the firing line.
Report unsafe conduct, damaged equipment, an injury, a firearm malfunction or another safety concern immediately.
Refrain from consuming alcohol or using any substance that may impair judgement before or during shooting activities.
Not attend or participate if affected by alcohol, drugs, fatigue, illness or medication that makes shooting unsafe.

Safety directions issued by Club officials require immediate compliance. Questions or concerns may be raised after the situation has been made safe.

A person who behaves unsafely, refuses an official direction or acts contrary to the Club’s values may be required to leave. No refund will be provided where a visitor is removed for misconduct or a safety breach.

Visitors who are not shooting

A person visiting to observe the Club or inspect the facilities must:

Arrange the visit in advance where practicable;
Be the guest of a Club member or be escorted by an authorised Club representative;
Complete the clubhouse sign-in process;
Wear a visitor tag visibly; and
Remain with their escort.

Every visitor must have a legitimate purpose for attending the Club.

Unlicensed visitors

Newtec Pistol Club does not offer “try shooting days” for unlicensed people.

Unlicensed visitors must not possess, handle or use a firearm unless the activity is separately authorised by law and expressly approved and supervised by the Club. Attendance as a spectator does not authorise a person to handle a firearm.

SSAA attendance recording

SSAA attendance recording may be available between 9:00 am and 10:30 am, subject to the Club being open and an authorised person being available.

Please confirm availability before travelling to the Club.

Opening hours and working bees

Current opening hours are published on the Club’s home page and may change because of competitions, maintenance, weather, safety requirements or operational circumstances.

A working bee is ordinarily held on the second Saturday of each month. Shooting does not take place during the working bee.

Check the home page or contact the Club before attending.

Health and wellbeing

Please do not attend the Club if you are unwell or may expose others to a contagious illness.

If you become unwell while at the Club, stop participating and notify a Club official.

Damage to Club property

Visitors must use Club facilities and equipment responsibly.

A visitor who deliberately, recklessly or negligently damages Club property may be required to pay reasonable repair or replacement costs. Where appropriate, the matter may also be referred to the visitor’s club or relevant insurer.

Before leaving

Before departing, visitors must:

Ensure firearms and ammunition are safely secured.
Return the visitor tag.
Return any borrowed Club equipment in the condition in which it was supplied.
Pay any outstanding charges.
Complete any required departure or sign-out record.
Report damage, incidents or safety concerns to a Club official.

Important reminder

All visitors must report to the clubhouse and sign in before entering a range or handling a firearm.

Admission, payment, identification and supervision requirements help protect visitors, members and the Club. Insurance or other protections may be affected if a person enters a restricted area or participates without completing the required admission process.

These requirements may sound formal, but they exist to ensure everyone understands the rules and remains safe. If anything is unclear, please ask a Club official before entering the range.
