Welcome to Newtec Pistol Club

-Your Premier Target shooting club in Teralba! -

We are modest we know it’s really Lake Macquarie, Newcastle and Hunter but we are being modest. 

 

We’re a passionate, welcoming community dedicated to helping target shooters develop their skills, stay safe, and enjoy the sport in a supportive environment.

 

To help our club thrive and keep everyone safe, we operate with a clear, active culture built on mutual respect and genuine participation. Here is what you need to know before joining us:

 

Our Community & Culture

• Positive Energy First: We pride ourselves on a welcoming, encouraging environment. Respect is non-negotiable—bad attitudes, gossip, or aggressive behaviour have no place at our range.

 

• Honesty & Communication: If you run into any issues with your application or have questions along the way, just talk to us! We are always here to help as long as you're open and honest with us.

 

• Hands-On Contribution: Newtec is built by its members. We expect everyone to lend a hand at annual working bees and stay engaged by attending key events like our AGM.

 

Commitment & Training

• First-Year Mentorship: To set you up for success and safety, all new members commit to one dedicated training day per month for their first 12 months.

 

• Active Shooting Required: Firearms ownership comes with responsibility. We are looking for members who genuinely want to participate, build their skills, and enjoy the range—not simply store a firearm at home.

 

Licensure & Categories

​

• Know Your Requirements: Before applying, please thoroughly read the official registry rules. Licensing suitability is handled directly by the NSW Firearms Registry, and knowing the requirements ensures a smooth start for everyone.

 

• Category A/B & Category H: We warmly welcome Rifle members (Cat A/B)! However, if you hold or acquire a Category H (Pistol) licence, our constitution requires you to hold a full Pistol membership with the club.

The steps - This is a very general run down 

​

1. Submit Application: Apply online.

Fill out and submit your joining application form. Don't worry if you run into any issues—just submit as best you can and reach out.

2. Application Review: Club assessment.

Our committee will review your submitted application details.

3. Interview: Getting to know you.

Meet with the club for an interview to discuss your application, expectations, and club culture.

4. Pistol Safe Handling (PSH) Course: Upon acceptance.

Once accepted, complete your Pistol Safe Handling course to learn core safety and range protocols.

5. Apply for Probationary Licence application.

After achieving competency in the PSH course, submit your application for a Probationary Pistol Licence (PPL) using your PSH certificate and Newtec member card.

6. Keep Us Updated: Licence progress.

Notify the club as soon as your PPL arrives, or get in touch immediately if you run into any issues or delays with the Registry.

7. 12-Month Training Program: Mandatory commitment.

Complete your 12-month training program (1 day per month), along with completing your PPL certificate requirements.

8. Apply for Full Licence: Training completion.

Once your 12-month training program and PPL requirements are successfully completed, apply for your full Category H licence.

9. Full Licence & Permit to Acquire: Final steps.

Let us know as soon as your full licence arrives. When you are ready, you can apply for a Permit to Acquire (PTA) a firearm.

10. Enjoy the Sport!:Welcome to the range.

Make sure you have a bloody good time, learn to shoot better, and have a bucket load of fun with the team!

 

Frequently Asked Questions

 

Who handles licensing and suitability questions?

 

All inquiries regarding licensing eligibility, background checks, or suitability must be directed to the NSW Firearms Registry. Newtec cannot advise on or process individual registry determinations.

 

What is the training commitment for new members?

 

All new members commit to attending one mandatory training day per month for their first 12 months. This is a fixed requirement designed to build your shooting skills and ensure range safety.

 

Can I join as a Rifle member if I hold a Pistol (Category H) licence?

 

No. Under our club constitution, if you hold a Category H licence—or acquire one during your membership—you must hold a full Pistol membership with the club.

 

What happens if I make a mistake or run into issues on my application form?

 

Don't panic! Submit the form as best as you can and reach out to us. We are happy to help you work through any questions or technical issues—just be open and honest with us.

 

What are the ongoing attendance and participation requirements?

 

We are an active club, so we expect members to get involved! Beyond your range shooting, we ask members to contribute a bit of time each year to club working bees and attend key meetings like the AGM. While tracking required attendance for your licence is up to you and the NSW Firearms Registry, Newtec records and reports participation data as required by law.

To make like easier or harder we have have two form types 

• Standard printable form: best if you are going to print and handwrite information 

• Fillable: set up to complete with Acrobat or PDF program you like. 

Oh if you are stressing about signing them you are welcome to email them and sign in person if it’s a drama, the Newtec way is stress free and to be flexible as we can. 

If you struggle with computers out committee should be able to print one for you soon (we will have them on the iPad ( this is coming soon, we hope our developer cannot spell simple) 

If we can help we will. 

Fees we do not advertise, we would rather discuss with you because they are based on number of things. On a positive note we will run some New Applicant promotions in the next 12 months.
